| Nagpur is one of the significant cities of central India. It is the third largest city of Maharashtra after Mumbai and Pune. It has also distinction of being the second capital of the state. It has the seat of winter session of Vidhan Sabha. It also the political as well as commercial center of
vidarbha region of the state. The city is the headquarters of Nagpur district and Nagpur division. With the population around 2,420,000 the city is the 14th largest urban conglomeration in India and

| The city of Nagpur situated in the eastern part of Maharashtra. It is located on the Deccan Plateau of Indian Peninsula. Nagpur has mean altitude of 310 meters above the sea level. It has topical wet and dry climate. It receives annual rainfall of 1,205 mm in the season of monsoon. |

The city has a number of natural and man made lakes like Futala Lake, Gorewada Lake and Telangkhedi Lake, Ambazari Lake, Sonegaon Lake and Gandhisagar Lake.

Nagpur is a very important trading center of vidarbha region of
Maharashtra. Though with the rise of economic progress in the cities of Mumbai and
Pune, the economy of the city has witnessed some decline in the past days. But with the stimulant of Rupees 5,000 crore in the year 2004 had helped the city to recover from the slump. Nagpur has regional branch of the Reserve Bank of India. The city is also a major industrial hub of the region. The Butibori industrial area in the city is one of the largest industrial areas in Asia. Indo Rama Synthetics is the largest unit of the estate which manufactures synthetic polymer yarns.

Nagpur is accessible with airways, roadways as well as railways. Nagpur Railway Station is an important Railway junction of the region connecting every important city of the country. The city is also connected with two national highways NH-7 (Kanyakumari-Varanasi) and NH-6 (Hajira-Kolkata). It also has two Asian Highways namely AH43 Agra to Matara in Sri Lanka and AH46 connecting Kharagpur to Dhule. The city is also has the busiest Air Traffic Control in India. The airport of the city is known as Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport.
